Senior lecturer in Greek
at the Department of Linguistics and Philology
Duties: Teaching Ancient Greek, research and administration, including pedagogical coordination of undergraduate training in Greek. Teaching duties encompass teaching at basic and advanced level, main responsibility for courses, course administration as well as supervision of postgraduate students. The successful applicant is also expected to actively apply for external research funding and to observe developments within the subject area as well as societal developments that may influence work within the university.
Eligibility requirements: An applicant is qualified for the position as senior lecturer if s/he has a Ph D or equivalent scholarly competence, has completed relevant training in teaching at the tertiary level or has gained corresponding accomplishments and shown pedagogical skills as well as the broad ability required to carry out the duties of the position in full.
For this position, the ability to teach in Swedish and/or English is a requirement. A successful applicant without knowledge of Swedish will be expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years.
Selection criteria: In ranking qualified applicants for this appointment, equal weight will be paid to scholarly and teaching merits. In appraising scholarly qualifications, special attention will be paid to research merits in Ancient Greek. Documented research in Greek with a linguistic focus is especially meritorious, as are previously awarded research funding for research in Greek.
Teaching merits will be assessed as carefully as scholarly merits. The assessment of teaching merits encompasses both planning, execution and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination. Teaching merits should be fully documented, enabling the assessment of quality. Teaching and research performed in international settings are meritorious.
In this recruitment, following a comprehensive assessment of accomplishments and skills, the University will primarily consider the candidate who, in addition to his/her documented merits is judged best suited to carrying out and furthering the duties and functions of the position and contributing to the advancement of the subject and the department.
Selection criteria – additional skills: Administrative competence is important for this position and will be assessed accordingly. The ability to inform the general public about research and developments will also be taken into account
Administrative competence is assessed through the applicant’s capacity for long-term planning, administrative management as well as cooperation. The ability to inform the general public about research and developments is assessed through his/her participation in popular scientific activities such as publishing popular science and in public debates on issues on education and research.
Private circumstances (e.g. parental leave) that may be of interest in the assessment of merits should be provided in connection with the statement regarding skills and competence.

- A brief summary of scholarship, teaching and other activities. The applicant’s portfolio of teaching qualifications should be sufficiently detailed to allow for a quantitative as well as a qualitative assessment.
- A list of scholarly and teaching-related works mentioned. The applicant is to select no more than 10 pieces of work that s/he deems most representative or relevant.
- Publications (no more than 10) numbered according to the publications list as described above.
- In this recruitment procedure, the Appointment Committee may make use of interviews, trial-lectures and referees. The applicant should therefore submit a list of referees well acquainted with the applicant’s professional accomplishments and capacities as well as personal qualities that may be of relevance for the position, e.g. his/her ability to cooperate with others, leadership skills and working methods.
