Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:

PhD position in Psychology

at the Department of Psychology. Starting date as soon as possible.

The doctoral position is at the Babylab (www.babylab.se) at the Department of Psychology (www.psyk.uu.se). The research group consists of twenty researchers and doctoral students who investigate motor, cognitive, and social development in infants and pre-schoolers. The Uppsala Babylab has a strong international focus and has recently been evaluated as world-leading (KOF-07 och KOF-11).

Project description: This project will investigate how infants and adults interpret their social environment. The doctoral student will investigate the mechanisms which make it possible for humans to predict the goals of others’ actions. The investigation methods will include eye-tracking and possibly functional neuroimaging with EEG and NIRS.

The doctoral student will primarily engage in research. Other work at the Department such as teaching and administration can optionally be included in the employment (m20%). The regulations for doctoral students can be found in Högskoleförordningen 5 kap §§ 1-7.ax

Further valued skills: Experience with infant research and experience with the methods used in the Babylab are valued. It is also an advantage, but not a requirement, that the applicant can program computers (Matlab).

4. The undergraduate thesis
5. A research plan (see below)
Research plan: The research plan should concern research that the applicant may wish to pursue as his or her dissertation project. However, at this stage, having written about a particular project does not imply a necessary commitment for the future.
Selection: The selection will be based on an assessment of the applicant’s aptitude for successful completion of graduate studies, made by the professors at the department. The bases for this judgment are the previously written research thesis, interviews (if deemed necessary), and finally, the plan for a research project.

Admission: The case is prepared and decided by the Department.


Financing: These positions are financed through a combination of grants and department resources. The successful applicant will be supported the first year with a doctoral grant and the remaining three years by an employment as a Ph.D student.
